From Editor To Author
Are you looking for an editor who cares about your creation? Someone who will discuss your vision with you and strive to maintain your authentic voice? As an author myself, I believe strongly in supporting the desire of a writer to manifest a product that expresses their creativity to the highest level – a level that resonates with how they view their talent and achieves the goal of their work. Being an editor requires skills, but what makes an author-editor partnership truly effective? One element is the editor’s passion for helping someone else reach their highest potential when it comes to their chosen creative expression. The other is the desire of the author to become a better writer, which requires him or her to be open to suggestion and to be willing to collaborate for the highest good of the work itself. Writers are usually quite talented storytellers but sometimes do not possess the language skills to properly refine their word usage. This may be the way our collaboration begins, but it doesn't have to continue. If you are interested in refining your work, whether this involves grammar and punctuation, plot, character development, or writing style, you are the type of client with whom I choose to work. Being open to growth is what largely contributes to making one a success. Working together as partners, we can take your work to where you want it to be. Although I do not charge the high-end prices of professional editors, I still choose to limit myself to one book manuscript per month. This means you have my undivided attention. As far as my services are concerned, I provide the following individual services for all fiction genres. Please note that I consider the word count for a page to be the industry standard of 250. 1. Structural editing takes the big picture approach to your work. It takes into consideration plot and characters as well as elements of the story that may be missing or ones that need adjustments. [SE] 2. Line editing, sometimes called substantive editing, involves refining the arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences and smooth transitions between paragraphs. Please note that if you choose Line Editing service, I include basic copy editing, which is a good deal! [LE] 3. Copy editing, which is often mistakenly defined as line editing, is actually the correction of copy to accepted modes of the mechanics of writing, which includes grammar, punctuation, spelling, and basic sentence formation. It does not involve rewriting of any kind. [CE] 4. Proofreading should not be done until the other forms of editing have been completed. It is your final run-through to make sure there are no typos, missing or repeated words, as well as to confirm consistency in formatting. In other words, it is verification your work is production-ready. [PR] |
Ideas and Words Require Finessing
Seeing your ideas transformed into words that inspire or inform others is exhilarating! Seeing the words that convey your message make money for you is absolutely electrifying! It doesn’t matter if it’s a brochure, a presentation, a script, a flyer, or a manuscript, WORDS MATTER! Once the perfect words are discovered, they cannot stand alone. They need the support of correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Consistency and flow contribute as well.

For Your Information
Are projects ever turned down? Yes. If I feel that you and I are not on the same wavelength, it is better that we don’t torture ourselves by trying to work together. That being said, on pieces under 10,000 words, it would be rare that I would turn a project down. On manuscripts, a different set of issues arise. It is much more important that you and I are able to harmonize if we are partnering on your manuscript.
